Discover the Faith

The way of love

Sometimes it seems easier to build a wall around ourselves rather than to be rejected. To let off steam on others rather than to pause and pray. To be offended rather than to forgive. Or even to detach our emotions from the situation as though it didn’t happen, whilst having those secret wounds in our hearts. This is our general human experience, but it doesn’t have to be.

We are faced with choices every day. To choose to be kind, to choose to try to be more patient with others, to choose to forgive an offense. Yet the pride that rises up tells us that we should remain indignant, or not to be someone’s doormat. Sometimes just avoiding further conflict feels easier than making peace.

Some spiritual philosophies may seem to help us look objectively at the problem in a detached way, as though it were happening to someone else. Yet detachment leaves us ill-equipped to deal with things in a realistic way that will lead to healthy relationships.

We need a heart change. An inner transformation. True, deep enlightenment. Where do we find this?

The Messiah – Jesus, taught many wise things.

Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment; And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew’s Gospel 2:37-40, the Bible

First we need to have a right relationship with the God who created us all. When we truly love God devotedly and love our neighbour like ourselves, this is the way to healthy relationships. First we need to know who the Creator is, and to put our faith in that great Creator to transform us from within. When we find and walk in that true way of love, we can navigate through every situation with the right perspective.
